Distribution
Hanson Aggregates uses road, rail and water to distribute its products.
A fleet of over 1,200 dedicated trucks deliver products to our customers, while trains, ships and barges link production units and distribution depots.
Road
Hanson has a large fleet of owner-operated or company-owned vehicles for concrete, aggregates and asphalt deliveries. These vehicles are located at units throughout the country and are supported by hired hauliers as appropriate. It is our aim to deliver quality materials reliably and with absolute safety. To support this aim, all drivers are undertaking aggregatesindustry standard driver skills training.
For operational and environmental reasons Hanson is keen to reduce its reliance on road transport and has developed innovative rail and water solutions.
Rail
Hanson is one of the country's largest users of rail freight, moving over 2.5 million tonnes a year from five rail connected loading points to 16 distribution depots. The network is flexible enough to meet changing market demands and the requirements of special projects. Hanson has its own fleet of locomotives and wagons which are used by Mendip Rail Limited, a joint venture company formed to manage aggregates distribution by rail.
Water
In addition to our marine dredging operations, we use sea transport to link offshore quarries with the major markets via our network of wharves.
Hanson also uses the Thames and the Grand Union canal to transport material in the south east of England. Water transport is also used to supply construction projects and ready-mixed concrete plants alongside the River Thames.
