The fleet

Hanson has a well-balanced fleet of dredgers which vary in size from 1,300 to 5,500 gross tonnes. Our purpose-built trailing suction dredgers, have accessibility to most ports and are designed to extract sand and gravel from the seabed in depths of up to 50 metres.

Cargoes are dredged from Government licensed areas off the coasts of South Wales, Southern England, Eastern England, Belgium and France taken to over 30 ports and berths in England, Wales, Holland, Belgium and France averaging a cargo every 30 hours.

Working 24 hours a day 365 days year the fleet is manned by some 240 officers and ratings who each work a three weeks on, three weeks leave system resulting in each ship having two complete crew allocated.

All vessels are fitted with self-discharging systems. The drag scraper or bucket wheel discharge methods deliver dry material directly onto wharves at rates of 600 - 2600 tonnes per hour. We also have hydraulic discharge and bottom dump facilities.
