Cavity Walls

Concrete blocks offer a cost effective, and robust solution for both the inner and outer leaf of cavity walling. Hanson's aggregate block and Thermalite aircrete product range offers a wealth of block solutions suitable for your project.

Cavity walls up to 2 storeys
For projects of 2 storeys or less, Hanson would recommend two aircrete block products that offer both excellent Thermal insulation properties and and low weights for ease of handling:

Thermalite Turbo
Turbo offers very high thermal insulation properties and is, therefore, ideal for external wall applications where low U-values are required. Thermalite Shield
Shield combines all the normal qualities of Thermalite block with extremely high moisture resistance.

Hanson also offers a full range of aggregate blocks, suitable for use in both the inner and outer leaf ofcavity walls. The standard medium density Fenlite and Evalite products are the traditional choice for cavity wall builds. However, Hanson's low to medium densit Superlite product and low density Ultralite range of blocks offers the builder a lighter weight more manageable block with better insulating properties. These ranges offer the robustness of an aggregate block with some of the weight and insulating advantages of the Thermalite range.

Cavity walls, 3 storeys and above
Hanson's aggregate blocks offer a full range of low, medium and dense concrete blocks suitable for multi-storey applications. In particular, the medium density, Fenlite or Evalite, blocks offer compressive strengths up to 10N/mm2 and the dense concrete block, Evalast, can be specified up to 30N/mm2.

The Thermalite range also offers two high strength blocks specifically designed for multi-storey applications:

Thermalite Hi-Strength 7
Hi-Strength 7 has been specifically designed for application such as flats of three story and above offices, supermarkets and retail parks, where loading conditions require a 7.3 N/mm² building block.
Thermalite Hi-Strength 10
Hi-Strength 10 has been specifically developed to meet the requirments of the architect, structural engineer and builder, confronted with situations where loading conditions require a 10.4 N/mm².
