Greatorex Street
This development of student accommodation, situated on Greatorex Street, London, was commissioned by Shaftesbury Housing Association and designed by TP Bennett.
The site was bounded by traditional brick buildings constructed with "London" Stock bricks so careful consideration was needed with material selection. After exploring a number of possibilities to overcome some of the challenging aspects of the building such as, incorporating brickwork with render and wood boarding, the Wonderwall system was selected.
To blend in with the surroundings, the Hanson Red Bank Gobelin was selected by the Architect. By choosing this product it also addressed some of the sustainability issues since it was possible to cut two slips from every brick since this was a "slop" moulded product. Altogether, 60,000 slips were cut, supplied and installed by Hanson with the external façade being completed in less than eight weeks demonstrating the speed of the installation.
