We aim to be the market leader in the provision of sustainable products and services, to reduce the environmental effects of production and delivery and to ensure we act in an ethical and sustainable manner in all our business decisions.
Our environment, workplace, community and education programmes are core to our business philosophy of providing safe working conditions for our employees and ensuring we minimise the impact of our operations.
We aim to make the best use of our mineral reserves by using secondary and recycled materials whenever it is economic and technically feasible, and by providing design solutions to minimise waste and improve value. We also monitor, and seek to reduce, energy and water consumption, and we are committed to working in partnership with other organisations in areas such as biodiversity, energy management and product development.
Our environmental policy is underpinned by a commitment to the principles of sustainable development. Our products are part of everyday life. The rock, gravel, sand, bricks, concrete and other products we produce are used to build homes, roads, schools and places of work and to provide clean drinking water and effective sewerage systems. Building products are essential to achieving a sustainable society.
Most of our products have sustainable qualities: durability well in excess of 60 years life, low or nil maintenance requirements, heat and noise insulation and can be recycled. We are continually improving the sustainability credentials of our products through our environmental management and product development programmes.
We are encouraging a culture dedicated towards thinking and acting with due regard towards sustainability issues. And to back up our policies, a series of goals and targets are being collated at every level of the organisation.
