Double delight at Concrete Society awards

Hanson swept the board in the ‘excellence in customer service’ category at the 2016 Concrete Society awards, taking the top two prizes.

Supply of concrete to the Walthamstow Blockade project in London was named as overall winner, with the Medway bridge contract in Kent runner-up.

The winning project involved track and drainage enhancements to a section of the London Underground’s Victoria line and included development of a number of bespoke concrete mixes, an extended pour and out-of-hours working. The London concrete team facilitated the unanticipated 36-hour pour by opening an additional plant and drafting in extra drivers and staff at short notice.

The Medway crossing will provide access to a new 1,000 home development. It has absorbed 10,000 cubic metres of concrete and involved close co-operation between the operations, commercial, technical and distribution teams.

Divisional managing director Max Colligan, regional general manager Alistair Adamson and technical director Charlie Jones received the awards on behalf of the company. “Being awarded both first place and runner up in the excellence in customer service category is a great achievement,” said Charlie. “It demonstrates our company-wide commitment to delivering excellent customer service across all our projects.

“I would like to congratulate the teams involved who collaborated across the supply chain to deliver reliable, sustainable and safe solutions, while going above and beyond our customers’ expectations.”
