Quarry donates stone for new war memorial
A huge stone donated from our Penderyn quarry in South Wales will be used to make a new war memorial in memory of servicemen from the nearby village.
The church in the village has closed, making the memorial inside it inaccessible to the public. The new one will mean that the names of those that fell – many of whom worked at the quarry at some point during their short lives – will not be forgotten.
“We were only too pleased to help,” said Morgan Evans (pictured), production supervisor Penderyn quarry.
“As well as being sourced from our site, the new war memorial will be able to be seen from the quarry. It is very fitting as so many of those named worked here.”
It is hoped that the new memorial will be in place by the end of the year.
