Hanson UK achieves energy management certification

Hanson UK has gained certification for the energy management system ISO 50001:2011 across its whole business.

The heavy building materials supplier is one of the first to secure the certification across all business lines, reflecting its commitment to achieving continual improvements in energy performance, efficiency, use and consumption.

It also puts the company ahead of schedule in complying with the requirements for the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), which comes into force in December.

The energy management system ISO 50001:2011 standard has been certified for the extraction, production and supply of heavy building materials across the whole of Hanson UK – including its marine dredging, contracting, fleet transport and administrative offices.

Head of sustainability Paul Lacey said: “This certification forms an important part of our drive to embed energy improvements across the business and demonstrates our commitment to reducing energy use, maximising carbon efficiencies, delivering products and services with lower embodied carbon and supporting national and European energy and carbon reduction targets.

“Having an energy management system that meets the standard also represents a significant step towards achieving our own challenging 2020 sustainability goals.”
