Community open days

Community open days were held at four of our sites during the year. More than 700 people visited Batts Combe quarry in Cheddar in July. Three coaches on a continuous loop ferried visitors from the site entrance through the limestone processing plant to a secure area where they could see some of the Somerset quarry’s giant rock-moving machines in action. They were then taken to a viewpoint high above the quarry which is not normally accessible to the public.

In North Wales over 400 people attended an open day at Padeswood cement works near Mold. Attractions included wheelchair rugby, archery, the Royal Buckley Town Band and a charity raffle.

The open day at Chipping Sodbury in South Gloucestershire was held as part of the town’s festival week and attracted over 300 people.

An open day at Monks Park stone mine near Corsham in Wiltshire allowed architects, specifiers and customers to see how we extract and cut natural Bath stone from seams deep underground.
