Asphalt Plant Locations & Delivery

Heidelberg Materials offer Asphalt deliveries 24 hours, 7 days a week up to a distance of 50 miles from each strategically located asphalt plant. We operate a 200 vehicle strong company fleet of  fully CLOCS and FORS Gold compliant non-tipping Walking Floor artics and 8 wheel tippers. The majority of our Heidelberg Materials liveried, contracted fleet is CLOCS and FORS Silver and Bronze compliant. 4 wheelers, 6 wheelers and Tridem 8 wheelers can be made available on request. Walking Floor artics offer an extra 8 tonne payload in comparison to 8 wheelers and are a great way to reduce vehicle movements on site and delivery material in the safest and most sustainable way possible. Asphalt can be collected out of most of our plants from quantities as small as 1 tonne. Orders for material to be collected can be placed via telephone or email via our orders office or in some locations directly with the local plants.

FAQs

How is asphalt sold

Asphalt can be bought directly from most asphalt plants – starting with quantities as small as 1 tonne for collection customers. Alternatively, as an asphalt supplier, Hanson offers asphalt deliveries from each of our strategically located asphalt plants.

What type of asphalt is used for driveways

Tuffdrive® is a frequently used asphalt surfacing material for driveways and parking areas. It's specially designed to withstand the rigours of power-steering and heavy use and is ideally suited for new-build housing projects where a contractor wants to offer a high-performance, durable, value-for-money driveway surface course. Please contact the technical team for further advice on which product to use.

How thick should the top layer of an asphalt driveway be

For a residential asphalt driveway, the recommended top layer thickness for 6mm Tuffdrive® asphalt surfacing material is between 20-30mm. For 10mm Tuffdrive® asphalt surfacing material, the recommended layer thickness is between 30-40mm. Construction of a driveway should also factor in the requirements for the base and binder course asphalt layers.

Can you lay asphalt on top of concrete

Concrete can be used as a sub-base for asphalt, this however depends on the strength and condition of the concrete. Asphalt offers a flexible solution for overlaying concrete and Hanson can supply crack-resisting asphalt including, Tufflayer and Tufflex, for example.

What is the difference between asphalt and bitumen

Bitumen is the liquid which bonds or glues the asphalt together. Asphalt is manufactured in mixing plants that heat, dry, and mix aggregate, bitumen, and sand to form an asphalt product solution suitable to use for a wide range of applications.

Where to buy asphalt in bulk

Customers can buy asphalt for bulk directly from Hanson’s network of plants and depots across the UK. Asphalt can also be collected with orders placed by telephone or email via our central orders office or, in some locations, directly with the local plant.

Sustainable Asphalt solutions

Effective resource and waste management is at the heart of how we operate our UK asphalt plant network.

We have taken measures to reduce primary aggregates used in our products.  Additionally, most of our plants now use reclaimed asphalt across our range. This is part of our sustainable approach to recycling.

We have also introduced ‘moving floor’ vehicles to our delivery fleet. Their remote controlled, ‘no tipping’ design allows for a more measured release of asphalt. As well as enhancing safety and improving tunnel and under-bridge access, their 40% larger capacity means fewer and more efficient road movements.

As part of our ongoing innovation and drive to be sustainable, we have developed a new greener asphalt solution - Hanson era®.Through a unique production process, Hanson era® reduces the carbon emissions associated with asphalt production for road-laying by up to 50%. All of our asphalt solutions are accredited to the environmental standard ISO 14001 and to responsible sourcing standard BES 6001. They are also ‘CE’ marked in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation. We also comply with quality management system ISO 9001 and have BBA approval for our thin surfacing products.
