Asphalt donation provides smooth surface for GNAA car park

We have donated and laid the asphalt needed to resurface the car park at Great North Air Ambulance’s (GNAA) Langwathby site near Penrith, Cumbria.

We supplied 40 tonnes of Tufflex from our nearby Shap asphalt plant which was laid by our contracting team to improve facilities for the air ambulance staff.

The work was carried out in conjunction with Story Contracting, who are working with the GNAA team to undertake improvement works at the site, which is being refurbished and adapted to improve the facility in anticipation of service expansion.

The GNAA operate the Pride of Cumbria II, from the site as well as a critical care car officially titled HX050 which is activated when the helicopter is unable to fly due to extreme weather and will expand into seven nights a week as soon as enough supportive funding can be sought.

Lee Salmon, critical care paramedic at GNAA, said: “As a charity we rely on donations to keep us in the air and to keep saving the lives of those most in need, so we are extremely grateful to Hanson for saving us around £7,000 by resurfacing the car park at our Langwathby base free of charge.”

Regional general manager Adrian Stubbs added: “We are committed to supporting the local communities in which we operate and are delighted to be able to support the GNAA, which provides life-saving services across the north-east, Cumbria and north Yorkshire.”
