Hanson extends Hinkley involvement with new contract wins

Hanson UK has extended its involvement with EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C project, securing a roads construction contract for the Kier Bam Joint Venture through its contracting division. The contract includes supplying 40,000 tonnes of cement bound granular material (CBGM) and 100,000 tonnes of asphalt over the next two years. The materials will be used to build access roads on site. Hanson Contracting has also secured contracts with Laing O’Rourke, to support new accommodation campuses which are being built to house up to 1,500 construction workers. Tufflex HD being used for B4587 resurfacing

Tufflex HD being used for B4587 resurfacing.
Specialist asphalt Tufflex HD is being used to resurface the B4587 Akers Way in Swindon. The flexible and durable material has been specified by Swindon Borough Council for the three-kilometre project to cover the existing concrete surface. Deliveries are being made by non-tipping ‘moving floor’ vehicles, which can carry 40 per cent more than conventional tipper trucks, to minimise road movements.

Barton quarry set to star on screen

Barton quarry and concrete plant in Staffordshire is to feature in a children’s TV programme showing how concrete is made. A production team visited the site to put together a short film for the second series of Do You Know?, a science and engineering programme for CBeebies which looks at how everyday things work. The programme’s presenter, Maddie Moate, followed the process from quarry to lorry via the on-site concrete batching plant and watched the finished product being delivered to a nearby construction site.
