Continuous 1,508-cubic-metre-pour for new motorway

Hanson Concrete has delivered its biggest non-stop concrete pour in Scotland - 1,508 cubic metres in just 13.5 hours for a new motorway roundabout underpass. Thirty mixer trucks made 188 round trips from Hanson’s Glasgow Central, Drumchapel and Airdrie plants to complete the supply to the M74 Raith interchange at Bothwell. Area manager Colin Reid said it was an impressive achievement. “Not just for its size – it is the biggest we have ever done in Scotland – but also for doing it in a relatively short time,” said Colin. Lexicon, Islington case study

Lexicon, Islington, London EC1.
Concrete supplied by Hanson was used to create the sub- and super-structure of one of London’s landmark residential buildings. Behind its striking glazed façade, the building’s core, floorplates and structural rectangular columns are all constructed from one material – concrete.  Concrete was chosen due to the height of the structure, which stands 120 metres high on a very small footprint, as it is proven for creating tall structures while providing significant wind resistance, which was a major design consideration.
