Double delight at Concrete Society awards

Hanson swept the board in the ‘excellence in customer service’ category at the 2016 Concrete Society awards, taking the top two prizes. Supply of concrete to the Walthamstow Blockade project in London was named as overall winner, with the Medway bridge contract in Kent runner-up.The winning project involved track and drainage enhancements to a section of the London Underground’s Victoria line and included development of a number of bespoke concrete mixes, an extended pour and out-of-hours working. New mixers to join concrete fleet

Hanson has entered into an agreement with logistics firm Wincanton to deliver around half a million cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete on its behalf every year. The eight-year contract will be fulfilled by a fleet of over 70 new vehicles in Wincanton and Hanson liveries, each with a carrying capacity of eight cubic metres. The initial deployment of mixers will be in the East Midlands, with the remainder placed around the country to best serve the needs of Hanson customers. Quarry project wins research award

Quarry Life Award winners 2016.
A biodiversity research project carried out at Batts Combe quarry in Cheddar, Somerset, has won the top prize in the UK section of HeidelbergCement’s Quarry Life Award 2016. The project by a team from the University of the West of England looked at the importance of grassland restoration of quarry benches for bats. It was awarded a trophy and the £4,500 first prize at a ceremony at Middleton Hall near Tamworth in Staffordshire.
