Monks Park stone mine reopens

Hanson Bath & Portland Stone’s Monks Park stone mine in Gastard near Corsham in Wiltshire has re-opened after lying dormant for nearly 12 years. The first stone block was winched to the surface in January following three months of preparatory work at the site. General Manager Rod Lafargue said: “We are delighted to be back in business at Monks Park and look forward to stepping up production. We have already received considerable interest for Monks Park stone from stonemasonry factories, developers and architects”. Hanson UK appoints new CEO

Daniel Cooper has been appointed chief executive officer of Hanson UK, replacing Patrick O’Shea, who stepped down at Christmas after eight years at the head of the construction materials business. Daniel was previously northern regional general manager for Hanson Australia. He graduated from Murdoch University in Perth with a double major in commerce and economics and joined Pioneer Concrete in Australia in 1993. Hanson acquired Pioneer in 2000 and Daniel held a number of operational, commercial and customer service management roles including regional general manager for Western Australia....

Mission quarry extensions plans approved

Two planning applications relating to further sand and gravel extraction at Misson quarry have been approved by Nottinghamshire County Council. The first application (Newington South) is a variation of conditions to the existing permission, which will allow the extraction of an additional 150,000 tonnes of sand and gravel. The second (Newington West) relates to a new working area containing 360,000 tonnes of mineral, which will be worked on completion of Newington South. Misson is one of five quarries being promoted by Hanson UK for the 2016 Quarry Life Award....
