2014 was the best year for our business since the start of the financial crisis in 2008 as construction activity continued to increase and demand for our products rose. We produce aggregates (crushed rock, sand and gravel), ready-mixed concrete, asphalt, cement and cement related materials. We are part of the HeidelbergCement Group, which has leading global positions in aggregates, cement and concrete.

Clinker cooler upgrade

A new integrated drive system at Ketton cement works in Rutland is saving around £86,000 year in electricity costs, with a resultant reduction in CO2 emissions of 771 tonnes. The clinker cooler upgrade project at Ketton, carried out by Siemens, used variable speed drive technology and Siemens‘ integrated drive systems to reduce both energy use and noise levels. Six G150 converters with enhanced energy-saving functions have been installed with insulated bearings fitted to the existing motors. Hanson UK achieves energy management certification

Hanson UK has gained certification for the energy management system ISO 50001:2011 across its whole business.    The heavy building materials supplier is one of the first to secure the certification across all business lines, reflecting its commitment to achieving continual improvements in energy performance, efficiency, use and consumption. It also puts the company ahead of schedule in complying with the requirements for the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS), which comes into force in December. Third round of Quarry Life Award gets underway

Hanson UK has launched the third round of its biennial biodiversity research competition, the Quarry Life Award. The competition is run by Hanson’s parent company HeidelbergCement in more than 20 countries across Europe, Africa and Asia. It has been recognised as an official project as part of the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity and offers academics and students from universities and further education institutions the chance to win over €30,000 (£22,000) by finding new ideas for the conservation and promotion of biodiversity in quarries.
