Hanson commended at Concrete Society Awards

Hanson UK has been highly commended at the 2015 Concrete Society Awards for its involvement in the redevelopment of Bridlington Pump Station in Yorkshire.

The project, which used multiple specialist concretes supplied by Hanson to achieve high-strength, durability and withstand the challenging conditions of a sandy location – adjacent to two EU-designated Blue Flag beaches, was one of just five others to receive the prestigious award.

The pump station was recognised for the versatility of its concrete, how it was used to support the community environmentally as well as ensure that all visible concrete integrated with the architecture of a nearby Victorian Spa.

Hanson UK Concrete technical director, Charlie Jones said: “We are delighted to accept this award, which demonstrates our technical capabilities in providing concrete excellence.

“We carried out a substantial amount of development work prior to supplying each mix, including contingency planning for possible material source and quality changes, and worked closely with the contractor and admixture supplier to overcome challenging ground conditions, strength and durability requirements.”

Over 400 members, guests and industry representatives attended the awards dinner held at The Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London.
